Many processes involve the use of large quantities of heat, which
is typically provided by the combustion of fossil fuels. A detailed
knowledge of the principles of combustion is necessary for all
those involved in the design or operation of such facilities to
ensure that the efficiency of operation is maximised whilst
retaining the overall safety of the facility. This course would
typically cover such things as combustion calculations, excess air
and its effect upon efficiency, burners types, boilers and fired
heaters, flare systems, burner management systems, emissions and
their control.
